Rains affects coal production, 15 goats killed in lightning strike in Kothagudem

Heavy rains have disrupted operations in SCCL’s opencast coal mines in the Kothagudem area, with significant impacts reported at the Kistaram and JVR OCP sites due to high rainfall.

Kothagudem: As many as 15 goats died after being struck by lightning at Raghavapuram village of Sujathanagar mandal in the district.

The goats being reared by a farmer K Seenu of the village were struck by lightning when they were grazing near a eucalyptus plantation on Monday evening. The worth of the dead goats was said to be Rs 3 lakh.

Meanwhile, intermittent rains have affected coal production in SCCL’s opencast mines in Kothagudem area. 40000 cubic metres of overburden removal and 5000 tonnes of coal production affected due to 80 mm rainfall at Kistaram OC.

Similarly, 47 mm rainfall at JVR OCP area affected 30000 tonnes of coal production and 110000 cubic metres of overburden removal, officials said.
