Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), despite being profitable for two decades, has failed to meet its 2025-26 production target of 72 million tonnes, achieving only 58 million tonnes.

Singareni Collieries CMD D Krishna Bhaskar admitted the company had fallen slightly short of its monthly production targets this year and urged officials to intensify efforts. Stressing that consumers demand only quality coal, he emphasised the need to prioritise standards over sheer output.

Continuous rainfall has severely impacted life in Khammam and Warangal districts, damaging crops, halting coal production, and claiming one life in Bhupalpally. Massive rallies were taken out by trade unions including AITUC, IFTU, INTUC, CITU, TBGKS, TUCI and AIKS, alongside Left parties such as CPI, CPI(M), and CPI(ML) Massline at the district headquarters in Khammam and Kothagudem.

Expressing satisfaction over the performance, SCCL Chairman appreciated the efforts of all teams in achieving the set targets. He instructed officials to ensure uninterrupted coal production from opencast mines during the ongoing monsoon season.

While multiple factors have contributed, the primary reason for the decline in coal production is believed to be the rise in the number of rainy days. According to preliminary estimates, approximately 67 million tonnes of coal have been produced so far, falling short of the 72 million-tonne target set for the financial year 2024-25.

Srirampur Area, one of the major units of SCCL, saw production of coal by 53.66 lakh tonnes as against the target of 60.38 lakh tonnes from April 1 to March 20
