Hyderabad: Moderate to heavy rains lashed several parts of the State on Thursday, with Amangal in Mahabubabad district recording the highest rainfall of 119.8 mm. Most parts of the State including Hyderabad had overcast skies during the day.
The erstwhile districts of Karimnagar, Warangal, Nalgonda, Medak and Khammam reported moderate to heavy rainfall with low-lying areas in some districts getting inundated.
Heavy rains in erstwhile Nalgonda district on Thursday morning resulted in rainwater entering the Balalayam of Sri Lakshminarsimha Swamy temple on the Yadadri hill shrine. With the flooring works around the main temple completed, Balalayam is now on a slightly lower level on the hill shrine. Due to heavy rains, the water started entering the Balalyam, but it flowed out through the entrance door, preventing stagnation in Balalayam. The water did not rise to the level where the presiding deities are placed in the temple.
The sudden downpour disrupted normal life in Khammam city with many thoroughfares and low-lying areas getting inundated. The residential areas in 35th, 46th and a few other municipal divisions in the city were flooded, and water entered houses in some places.
Roads in Mulugu, Govindraopet and Venkatapur mandals of Mulugu district were inundated partially. The power supply was cut off temporarily to several villages in the district.
Some districts reported damage to paddy that was brought to procurement centres. The rains, however, did not cause major damage to property or result in casualties.
