Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Cybercrime cell on Monday arrested a man from Rajasthan on charges of cheating people after promising to provide them with Indian Oil Corporation dealerships. Police recovered a car, mobile phones, debit cards, cheque books and other material from him.
The arrested person, B Sandeep Singh (38), from Bhankrota in Jaipur of Rajasthan, was into cloth and food business in Hyderabad, Jaipur and other cities. He was fluent in five languages and taking advantage of this during the lockdown, he started committing online frauds with the support of his brother-in-law Bannalal Bawaria, who provided him with various SIM cards with fake addresses.
“He also managed to open online bank e-wallet accounts and other bank accounts on fake names using which he managed to make his victims deposit money,” said an official.
The suspect shared 10 per cent commission to Bawaria on every transaction. Recently, Singh allegedly duped a Hyderabad man to the tune of Rs 3.6 lakh. Following a complaint, the Cybercrime police team collected technical evidence and went to Rajasthan and caught Singh, who was produced before court here and remanded in judicial custody. Bawaria is absconding, police said, adding that the two were earlier arrested by Bandar Sindhri police of Ajmer for a similar offence. They were released on bail from Ajmer prison.
