Hyderabad: BJP State president N Ramchander Rao challenged BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar to make Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy resign and offer the post to a Backward Classes (BC) MLA, if the Congress truly cared about the community’s welfare.

His remarks came in response to Congress’ charges that the BJP had let down the BC community by appointing an upper-caste leader as the party’s new State president.

“If Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy offers his post to a BC MLA, I too will quit from my post,” Ramchander Rao declared, shortly after assuming charge as the BJP State president in Hyderabad on Saturday.

He came down heavily on the Congress for allegedly misleading the public with claims that the BJP was trying to remove the words ‘secular’ and ‘socialist’ from the Constitution.

“The Congress included these words as part of its appeasement tactics. From former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to current Prime Minister Narendra Modi, no BJP government has attempted to remove them,” he asserted. “Since the Congress lacks real issues to confront the BJP, it is resorting to false campaigns,” he said.

Rao also wrote a letter to the Chief Minister, demanding fulfilment of the six guarantees promised to the people.
