Hyderabad: Riding on a first-innings five-wicket haul from debutant pacer Ctl Rakshann Readdi (5/61) and a century (106 off 149; 15×4) by Team India cricketer G Hanuma Vihari in the second innings, Hyderabad took control of the match against Chandigarh on the third day of the Group B Ranji Trophy match at the Vikash Cricket Ground in Cuttack on Saturday.
Vihari hit a quickfire century to power Hyderabad to 269/8 before Tanmay Agarwal declared the innings to give the opposition an imposing target of 401 in the second innings. At stumps, Chandigarh were struggling at 21/2, losing Sarul Kanwar and Gaurav Pura, both to T Ravi Teja. On the fourth and final day, Chandigarh require another 380 runs with eight wickets in hand.
Earlier, Rakshann, who scalped four wickets overnight, added another scalp to his name dismissing Sandeep Sharma to round off a dream debut. However, it was all-rounder Ravi Teja who struck early in the day. He dismissed Sarul Kanwal on the fifth ball of the day before sending Gaurav Gambhir lbw five overs later. Ravi Teja then got rid of Rajangad Bawa (44) as Chandigarh, who resumed at 200/6, could add only 16 runs to their overnight lead to concede a massive 131-run lead.
Hyderabad, despite losing Akshath Reddy (4) early, scored runs at quick pace. Captain Tanmay hit an 86-ball 49 (7×4, 1×6) while Vihari smashed 15 boundaries as the duo added 87 runs in 120 balls for the second wicket. After Tanmay’s departure, youngster Tilak Varma joined Vihari. The southpaw smashed four boundaries and three over it in his 76-ball 63 to add 130 runs with Vihari for the third wicket in just 163 balls. He was dismissed when the team scores read 221 in the 51st over. Though Hyderabad lost five more wickets in a span of 40 runs in search of quick runs, they were well placed before declaring the innings.
