Rapper Raftaar becomes the first Indian artiste to accept cryptocurrency instead of actual currency as his performance fee.

Raftaar said that he has been an ardent admirer of the blockchain technology and accepting payment using the same technology is making his dream a reality. However, the rapper did not mention which cryptocurrency he will be paid in.

“I’ve always wondered why artistes and managers alike haven’t explored the potential of this disruptive medium. Nevertheless, I’ve finally taken the baby steps in this direction and all the credit goes to my manager, Ankit Khanna for making this dream a reality for me,” said Raftaar.

The performance for which Raftaar will be paid in cryptocurrency is a 60-minute virtual event hosted in Ottawa, Canada, for a private gathering of 100 people. It is scheduled for the second week of July.

Meanwhile, global artistes like Sia, Fall Out Boy, Mariah Carey, 50 Cent, G-Eazy, The Backstreet Boys and Lana Del Rey, among others have approved payments in cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.
