Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister, Gangula Kamalakar said reading books would help people gain knowledge and many became prominent through book reading. He was speaking after inugurating the week-long book fair jointly organized by Hyderabad Book Fair and Telangana Book Trust on the occasion of International women’s Day at Jyothiba Phule grounds here on Wednesday.
Kamalakar said Karimnagar was known for great writers and artists. Books would bring about change in the society. Terming the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao as a book lover, the minister said the Chief Minister had successfully continued Telangana agitation without any interruption and achieved a separate state since the latter studied thousands of books. Besides studying scores of books, former Prime Minister PV Narsimha Rao had also written a number of books and gained the name as an economist across the world, he added.
Writer Dr C Narayana Reddy, Sanskrit Pandit and Padma Vibhushan awardee Sribhashyam Vijayasaradhi and multilingual person Nalimela Bhaskar gained much reputation in their professions. Appealing to parents to encourage students to read books, the Minister assured to supply of famous books to all government and gurukulam schools in the district. Informing that 20,000 books have been displayed in 50 stalls in the book fair, he asked the people to visit the book fair and purchase books whichever they like.
Principal Secretary, BC Welfare Department, Burra Venkatesham advised the parents to develop book reading habit among children by providing them with famous books. So that the children would gain more knowledge, he opined. Emphasizing the need to provide rich education to girl children, he said that a knowledgeable society could develop as a healthy society. Telangana Sahitya Academy Chairman Juluri Gourishankar said that it was possible to overcome poverty and reach higher positions in life. Book reading would help to gain knowledge and culture.
Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao, MLA Sunke Ravishankar, Collector RV Karnan, Additional Collectors Garima Agarwal and GV Shyamprasad Lal, Assistant Collector Mayank Mittal, SUDA chairman GV Ramakrishna Rao, District Libraries Chairman Enugu Ravinder Reddy and others participated in the inaugural session.
