Kothagudem: CPI (Maoist) Party Central Committee spokesperson Abhay stated that Maoists were ready for peace talks with the State and Central governments, provided the governments should create an amicable situation for the purpose.
In a statement released to the media, he said the Maoists welcomed a round table meeting held in Hyderabad on March 24 on the topic of ‘Stopping of war in central India-announcement of ceasefire by the Indian government-CPI (Maoist) Party’ by a Peace Talks Committee.
Abhay said the party Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee spokesperson Vikalp twice expressed the party’s readiness for peace talks in response to a call given by Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma to Maoists to come for peace talks and the government is ready to discuss the issue.
Vikalp appealed to the government to create an atmosphere conducive for peace talks by stopping the ‘Operation Kagar’ launched in January 2024, by confining the security forces to their barracks and by stopping setting up of new police camps.
But the government has not responded to the appeal and continued the ‘Operation Kagar’ for the last 15 months killing over 400 Maoist cadres so far, besides arresting thousands of people, Abhay said.
If the governments in Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana stop the ‘genocide’ they are carrying out; stops setting up new police camps, the Maoist party would announce a ceasefire, he noted.
