Rename BRS schemes if you want, but continue them for people’s benefit: KTR tells Revanth

BRS working president KT Rama Rao urged the Congress government in Telangana to continue welfare schemes initiated by the previous regime, even if renamed, stressing that benefits must reach people.

Sircilla: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday asked the Congress government to continue welfare schemes launched during the previous BRS regime for the benefit of people, even if it wanted to rename them. 

He emphasised that notwithstanding the change in the ruling party, the government should not ignore its duties and must also ensure benefits of good initiatives reach people.

Participating in the distribution of free spectacles under the Kanti Velugu programme at Veernapalli in Rajanna-Sircilla district, Rama Rao said the Congress government could implement the schemes under new names, but should ensure that the benefits reach people. 

“You can change the names, but continue the programmes,” he said.

He said the BRS would continue the eye-care programme in Rajanna-Sircilla district irrespective of whether the government implemented it. He said the initiative had begun in Veernapalli and Garjanapalli with the support of doctors and private donors.

The BRS working president said the programme would subsequently be extended to all four mandals and municipalities in the Sircilla Assembly constituency and later to the Vemulawada constituency. He also said the BRS would seek to implement the programme across Rajanna Sircilla district. 

“If the government gets the sense to start it after seeing us, that is welcome,” he said.

He asserted that there was no need to focus on political criticism when elections were still far away and that his priority was doing good work for people.

More than 5,000 people underwent screening during four-day camps. Of them, 1,371 people were identified for spectacles, including 250 children. Rama Rao distributed the spectacles and took responsibility for all 171 patients who required cataract or other eye surgeries.

Arrangements were made to take the patients to the LV Prasad Eye Institute in Sircilla, where an eye hospital was established during the BRS government with an investment of Rs 6 crore. A vehicle would transport the patients from Veernapalli to Sircilla and drop them back home after surgery.
