Hyderabad: The Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF), Secunderabad officials, on Thursday arrested a retired Army personnel for his alleged involvement in chain snatching incidents aboard running trains and recovered gold ornaments valued at Rs 6.75 lakh.
The suspect, Annapu Reddy Srinivas Reddy (51), currently working as a field officer at a private security firm in Ghatkesar, was caught while moving suspiciously on Platform No 4 at Secunderabad Railway Station.
According to police, Srinivas Reddy targeted women passengers standing near train doors. On April 2, he attempted to snatch a mangalsutra chain on the Kakatiya Express but managed to take only a portion of it before jumping off the slow-moving train near Lalaguda. The following day, he allegedly carried out another snatching on the same train near Charlapalli.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the offences and said that financial distress due to losses in share market investments and online betting drove him to commit the crimes.
