Retired employees queue up at Telangana Finance department over pending benefits

Several retired employees queued up at the Telangana Secretariat on Thursday seeking clearance of pending GPF, pensions, bills and other arrears. The government has claimed Rs 6,000 crore was released towards pending bills and retirement benefits in three months.

Hyderabad: Many retired employees queued up at the Finance department in the Secretariat on Thursday, appealing to senior officials to clear their pending retirement benefits.

After the Praja Palana Dinostavam celebrations at the Secretariat complex, several retired employees turned up on the second floor. Carrying their applications, they were seen standing in queues at the Finance department.

Police officials tried to control the rush at the department and asked the employees to maintain queues.

This has been the case for the past few days. However, after learning that Finance department Principal Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania was present in his chambers, many retired employees turned up with their applications, an employee in the Secretariat said.

“The retired employees have been appealing to officials to clear their pending GPF, pensions, bills and other arrears,” the employee said.

The Congress government has been claiming that Rs 6,000 crore was released in the last three months towards clearing employees’ pending bills and extending retirement benefits. However, employees argue that pending bills and retirement benefits continue to pile up every month following the retirement of several employees from service.
Meanwhile, the employees’ association has announced that a meeting with Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, scheduled for Friday, has been postponed to Monday. The decision was taken in view of the Assembly session on Friday, the TGEJAC said in a statement.
