Warangal: The retired teachers of the State universities have urged the State government to take steps for the immediate payment of arrears as per the revised pay scale (RPS) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the arrears of revised consolidated pension at the earliest as they had been waiting for the payment for a quite some time now. Several of them who retired from the service before January 1, 2016 have recently met the higher officials in the department of finance and submitted a memorandum urging the government to ensure release of arrears as soon as possible stating that some of them were reeling under severe financial problems due to non-payment of the arrears.
They reminded that the government had issued orders (GO MS 15) June 29, 2019 regarding implementation of revised UGC pay scale -2016 to the university teachers in the State with effect from January 1, 2016 as per Para 19 of the order and it was implemented to the regular faculty of universities from July 1, 2019. “Later, the government issued an order (GO MS 1) on January 2, 2020, for implementation of consolidated revised pension to university teachers, government and aided college teachers drawing UGC pay scale who retired or died prior to January 1, 2016 and was implemented from March 1, 2020,” said Dr Ratankar of the PJTSAU told ‘Telangana Today’.
He added that many teachers, who are either in their 70’s or 80’s, are facing financial burdens due to medical expenses. “Hence, we are requesting the State government led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to ensure release of the arrears at the earliest for the benefit of the retired teachers,” he added. A retired teacher from Kakatiya University (KU) has also expressed similar views and urged the government to take steps for the payment of the arrears of RPS and pension. The issue was also brought to the notice of the government January 11, 2021, and we were assured that we would be paid the arrears. But unfortunately, the government has failed to fulfill its promise till today,” lamented a former teacher who worked in the KU, Warangal.
