Hyderabad: After the BJP State unit, it is now the Congress State unit that has begun instigating farmers into cultivating paddy in Yasangi season.
TPCC president A Revanth Reddy on Sunday asked farmers to cultivate paddy in Yasangi season, stating that it was legally binding on the State government not only to purchase the farmers’ produce at Minimum Support Price but also assure procurement.
The TPCC Chief said as per the Food Security Act, the Food Corporation of India was mandated to procure rice from across the country. While the FCI makes direct procurement in northern States like Punjab, it procures rice through Civil Supplies Corporation in Telangana, he said.
Revanth Reddy alleged that both BJP and TRS were indulging in dirty politics at the cost of farmers’ welfare as they were still waiting at their yards or markets with huge piles of unsold paddy. “Farmers should not get distracted by the dirty politics of these parties and cultivate paddy in Yasangi. Congress will fight with all resources to ensure that the government procures every grain of their produce at Minimum Support Price,” said Revanth Reddy.
