Revanth continues Assembly rhetoric, likens BRS conduct to terror attacks

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy launched a sharp attack on the BRS in the Assembly, accusing it of conspiring to disrupt proceedings and likening the alleged insult to the Speaker to terror attacks. He defended the Congress protest at K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s residence and announced a comprehensive inquiry into recent incidents, promising criminal cases under the SC/ST Act.

Hyderabad: With the BRS putting the Congress government on the defensive after Shadnagar MLA Veerlapally Shankar wished for Opposition leader and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao‘s death, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy continued his rhetoric in the Assembly on Wednesday. 

He accused the Opposition of conspiring to disrupt the House and made an extraordinary comparison by likening those who allegedly insulted the Speaker to perpetrators of terror attacks.

The Chief Minister described the BRS Legislature Party meeting as a conspiracy hatched at a farmhouse to disrupt the Assembly, alleging that the Opposition feared discussions on education sector irregularities, Dharani portal irregularities and 22(A) issues which would expose its 10-year misdeeds and debts. 

He said there was no difference between those involved in the Parliament attack, the Mumbai attacks and the Pulwama attack, and those who insulted the Speaker and officials at the Assembly.

He also defended the Congress protest at Chandrashekhar Rao’s Erravelli residence, including “Chavu Dappu” (drumbeats), calling it a democratic protest to express their anger. He claimed that the alleged cleansing of the protest spot was done as per the BRS chief’s directions.

Revanth Reddy said the government would initiate a comprehensive inquiry into the incidents since September 6 and register criminal cases against those allegedly involved in the conspiracy, attack on officials and the Speaker’s insult under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

He attributed the alleged insult to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge in Uttarakhand and Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar in Telangana to the “Manuvadi” thinking, while assuring the Speaker that the government would stand by him.
