Revanth neither fully used Kaleshwaram nor completed Tummidihatti: Jeevan Reddy
BRS leader T Jeevan Reddy criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over the alleged neglect of irrigation projects and Kaleshwaram. He demanded immediate operation of Kannepalli pumps, repairs to Medigadda barrage and utilisation of available water for farmers across Telangana
Hyderabad: BRS general secretary and former Minister T Jeevan Reddy slammed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for neglecting irrigation projects and failing to utilise the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, despite having completed 33 months in office. He said the Chief Minister had neither completed Tummidihatti nor fully utilised the Kaleshwaram project.
He demanded that the government immediately operate the Kannepalli pump-house motors and utilise available water for irrigation. “Without lifting water, Revanth Reddy is trying to help his mentor and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the cost of Telangana and its farmers,” he remarked.
Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, Jeevan Reddy said the Congress leaders had used the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) as an excuse for three years without taking up repairs to the Medigadda barrage. However, he said they remained silent on the recent report of the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) declaring that the Annaram and Sundilla barrages were in good condition.
The former Minister stated that nearly 5 TMCft of water was flowing downstream from Kannepalli every day and alleged that the government could have stored nearly 100 TMCft in upstream reservoirs had it operated the pumps over the last two months. He stated that the damage to piers in the seventh block of Medigadda barrage was only 0.2 per cent of the total Kaleshwaram project cost.
He alleged that hundreds of crores were being spent on events while relatively modest expenditure could have been used for Medigadda repairs. He urged Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy not to be complicit and become an accomplice to Revanth Reddy, warning that failure to store water could jeopardise standing crops.
