Hyderabad: BRS MLC K Kavitha charged the Revanth Reddy government with deliberately derailing the Backward Classes (BC) reservation Bills passed by the Assembly with its diversion politics. She said the Congress government had orchestrated a diversionary drama to push the Bills into cold storage and protect the Narendra Modi-led Central government from political embarrassment.
Speaking to the media in Hyderabad on Wednesday, Kavitha questioned Revanth Reddy’s sincerity in increasing BC reservations. She pointed out that despite promising to lead an all-party delegation to Delhi, the Chief Minister conveniently attended a meeting in Delhi on Wednesday organised by BC associations instead, effectively sidestepping the main issue. She said Revanth Reddy was shielding the BJP government at the Centre.
“If an all-party delegation had deposed before the Centre, it would have been forced to take a stance which the Modi government wished to avoid,’ she said.
The BRS MLC also hit out at Congress’s national leadership, stating that both Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge ignored the concerns of Telangana’s BC communities. She pointed out that both the Congress leaders failed to attend the BC meeting in Delhi, despite being in close proximity, in an insult to BCs. She also criticised Rahul Gandhi for remaining silent on various injustices in Telangana, including the police lathi-charge on students of the University of Hyderabad, the eviction of farmers in Lagacherla, and the demolition of poor people’s homes for the Musi River Development Project.
Countering the allegations that the BRS government had handed over UoH lands to the My Home Group, Kavitha dismissed them as a “millennium joke.” She challenged Revanth Reddy to send bulldozers to My Home Group if the Congress’s claims were true. She questioned why the Congress government was quick to demolish the homes of the poor, but hesitant to act against big corporate entities, just because their heads are closely associated with the BJP and Prime Minister Modi.
The BRS legislator said the Congress government was trying to sell 400 acres of UoH land to sustain its administration, after that Hyderabad’s real estate sector had declined under Revanth Reddy’s rule. She demanded that the land be returned to the university, rather than handing it over for commercial exploitation. She expressed concerns over environmental degradation in urban areas like Gachibowli, which is already a concrete jungle, putting immense pressure on the ecosystem.
Reiterating BRS’ stand, Kavitha said the previous K Chandrashekhar Rao government had protected 400 acres of UoH land from private encroachment by fighting legal battles in the court. She asserted that only Chandrashekhar Rao’s leadership could safeguard Telangana’s interests.
