Bhupalpally: With less than 24 hours left for concluding the municipal election campaign, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy continued his abusive and, what many called intemperate, political rhetoric against BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

Even as people across the State were complaining about mounting civic issues with panchayats and local bodies given no funds for the last two years, Revanth Reddy told voters that the former Chief Minister was incapable of coming to help people on civic issues and that only the Congress could resolve them.

“KCR is sleeping in his farmhouse. Will he come and clean the drains if you vote by looking at his photo?” he asked, also targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who “never visited the area”.

Addressing a public meeting in Bhupalpally on Sunday, Revanth Reddy tried to play down reports over district reorganisation and blamed the BRS for spreading false propaganda that Bhupalpally district would be abolished. He assured that the Congress government had no plans to scrap or create districts.

“Any future reorganisation will be taken up only after public consultation and discussion in the Assembly,” he remarked, despite his own Cabinet ministers having earlier confirmed the proposed reorganisation.

The Chief Minister also rejected claims regarding Singareni Collieries, stating that neither the medical unfit board nor hereditary employment would be abolished. He promised that the problems of 217 dismissed workers would be resolved, without clarifying the resolution process or timeframe for the same.

He also targeted union Minister G Kishan Reddy, accusing him of shielding BRS leaders from investigations, in phone-tapping, Formula-E and other cases.

Calling the BRS and BJP two sides of the same coin, he claimed that the Congress government had sanctioned Rs 92 crore to Bhupalpally municipality and thousands of crores to urban local bodies across the State.
