Hyderabad: Amid heated debates in the Telangana Assembly overextending 42 per cent reservations to BCs and the tabling of the Justice PC Ghose Commission Report on Sunday, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy flew to Kerala to attend an award presentation programme, drawing sharp criticism from various quarters.
The Chief Minister’s priorities in attending different programmes in recent weeks had already evoked backlash, with the latest incident only intensifying it, especially as it coincided with crucial discussions in the Assembly.
Earlier in the day, the Congress government introduced the Telangana Municipalities Bill 2025 and Telangana Panchayat Raj Bill 2025 to extend 42 per cent reservations to BCs in local body elections. Attending the morning session, the Chief Minister alleged that the BRS was creating hurdles to the passage of the Bills aimed at empowering BCs. His remarks sparked a verbal confrontation between the Treasury and Opposition benches, after which he left the House.
He flew to Kerala in a helicopter to attend AICC general secretary KC Venugopal’s ‘MP Merit Awards 2025’ function in Alappuzha. He was scheduled to return in the evening to take part in the short discussion on the Ghose Commission report. The discussion, expected to begin in the afternoon, was delayed as the House, adjourned for lunch, waited until 4 pm for the Chief Minister’s return.
Revanth Reddy had faced criticism earlier in the week when he held a review meeting on the Musi Rejuvenation project at his residence even as heavy rains lashed the State and several areas were flooded. The following day, he conducted an aerial survey of flood-hit regions in a helicopter, but only after attending the inaugural board meeting of the Telangana Sports Hub. Both instances saw questions raised about his priorities, with netizens also pointing out that besides blaming the Centre, the Chief Minister had done little to resolve the urea crisis too.
