Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, calling on villagers in the notified area of the proposed Bharat Future City to surrender their homes and lands for the development of the State, dismissed the ongoing farmers’ protest as politically motivated. Awareness programmes would be conducted to persuade farmers, civil organisations and local elected representatives on development plans, he said.

Using the occasion of Telangana Praja Palana Dinotsavam marking the State’s integration into the Indian Union on September 17, the Chief Minister made a forceful pitch for his ambitious project, alleging that opposition parties were instigating unrest among farmers to obstruct development. Hinting that compensation was already provided, he indicated that the foundation stone for the Bharat Future City would be laid in December this year.

Unveiling his plans, Revanth Reddy said foundation stone would be laid for construction of a “Gateway of Hyderabad” on the ORR, as part of the Future City project. He also revealed that foundation stones would be laid soon for the proposed Gandhi Sarovar and Musi Riverfront rejuvenation projects.

On the Musi tragedy, where three youths were washed away in recent rains, the Chief Minister blamed the poor for living along the riverbanks and also the past governments for allowing them. With promises to rehabilitate them, he said plans were afoot to develop the stretch into a night economy hub, with places of worship and statues of Telangana icons along the riverfront.

He also announced that a new education policy would be framed soon. Besides mounting a legal battle for Telangana’s share of 904 TMCft Krishna River waters, the government would resume the SLBC tunnel project and complete it by December 2027 to address fluoride issues in erstwhile Nalgonda district, he added.
