Revanth Reddy sitting on Palamuru-Rangareddy project to deny credit to KCR: KTR

BRS working president KT Rama Rao launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing him of stalling the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project and favouring a new scheme for personal gain. He also demanded immediate disqualification of MLAs who switched allegiance, calling it a mockery of democratic values.

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Tuesday tore into Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, accusing him of deliberately stalling the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project and depriving farmers of Palamuru region of crucial water. Despite 90 per cent of the work being completed during the BRS regime, the Chief Minister was making no effort to complete pending works and instead, initiated the Kodangal Lift Irrigation Scheme to allegedly pocket commissions, he said.

Speaking in Jadcherla alongside former Ministers S Niranjan Reddy and Srinivas Goud, Rama Rao said people had reposed faith in Revanth Reddy who claimed to be a son of Palamuru and elected 12 Congress MLAs hoping for rapid development.

“All he had to do was finish the remaining 10 per cent including canals and distribution works in the last 21 months. Instead, he has chosen to sit on the project, assuming that the credit for the project would go to former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao who completed Karivena, Vattem, Uddandapur, Narlapur and Yedula reservoirs,” he said.

He charged that the Chief Minister mischievously renamed the project after his uncle and union Minister S Jaipal Reddy without spending a rupee. “This is nothing but an attempt to erase KCR’s legacy, while farmers continue to suffer due to lack of water,” he remarked.

The BRS working president criticised the government’s decision to shift the source from Srisailam to Jurala and float special tenders for a new Kodangal-Narayanapet lift project worth Rs 4,000 crore, even though the National Green Tribunal had stayed it, for lack of necessary permissions. He said farmers were also opposing the move for want of due compensation.

He stated that the previous KCR government completed pending works in Palamuru region and created a new irrigation facility of 8 lakh acres, turning the drought-hit region greener. However, despite hailing from the same region, Revanth Reddy had done nothing in the past 22 months, except deny farmers their rightful share in water, he said.

Responding to mediapersons, Rama Rao took a jibe at the 10 BRS MLAs who defected to the ruling Congress, for lacking courage to openly admit their party affiliation. He pointed out that TPCC chief B Mahesh Kumar Goud himself admitted in a TV interview that the MLAs had joined Congress. He also cited Kadiyam Srihari admitting to having joined the Congress. He said the defection issue was already before the Supreme Court, but the government was playing for time.

On Gadwal MLA Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy claiming to be a BRS member, he sought to why know the former was not coming to the BRS office, attending BRSLP meetings or participating in any BRS programmes, but tags along with the ruling party members while they attack BRS and Chandrashekhar Rao. Stating that the Congress was mocking the people, media and judiciary with its duplicity, he demanded that the Speaker disqualify the turncoat MLAs immediately and uphold democracy.
