Hyderabad: Highlighting the enduring love and regard that those involved in the Telangana movement have for Telangana Thalli, BRS leader and MLC K Kavitha, on Saturday suggested that the State’s profound bond with the Telangana Thalli statue was something that only those who were part of the fight for Statehood could truly understand.

Addressing a round table conference organized by the Telangana Jagruthi at Press Club with intellectuals, she observed that the statue of Telangana Thalli was the symbol of legacy and cultural pride that the Telangana movement instilled in its people.

She criticized Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for altering the image of Telangana Thalli and attributed it to his lack of love for Telangana.

Referring to Revanth Reddy’s bid to erase the mark that the BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has made on every sphere in the State and its history, she pointed out that the profound connection and commitment which the BRS chief had demonstrated for the State, cannot be expected from those who no role in the movement, especially from the likes of Revanth Reddy.

Calling for widespread condemnation of blatant attacks on the culture of the State, she pointed out that the image of Telangana Thalli holding Bathukamma symbolizes the unity and greatness of Telangana society.

“Without Bathukamma in Telangana Thalli’s hands, how can we see the friendship and harmony in Telangana society?” she wondered.

She asserted that though no one has the courage to harm ‘our existence’, we must speak out and beat back such attempts. “If we remain silent during attacks on our identity and culture, history will not forgive us,” she said, criticising Revanth Reddy for the attempts made by him to destabilize the BRS government during the reconstruction of the State.

Kavitha emphasized Telangana Thalli holding a jonnakarru (millet stalk) in one hand and Bathukamma in the other, would continue to be worshipped.

She announced plans to foster a cultural upsurge yet again with writing poems and books about the glory of Telangana Thalli and wanted images of Telangana Thalli printed on notebooks and writing pads used by children.

She vowed to continue the tradition of starting programmes with the worship of Telangana Thalli and to install Telangana Thalli statues in every village.

She demanded that Revanth Reddy retract his comments about Bathukamma being a festival of upper castes and apologize to the people of Telangana. She also proposed renaming the statue unveiled by Revanth Reddy as “Congress Mata’ as a resolution was adopted to this effect at the meet.
