Hyderabad: The controversy over Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s statement about continuing in office for 10 years continues to stir discontent within the Telangana Congress.
TPCC Disciplinary Committee chairman and Nagarkurnool MP Mallu Ravi has urged party leaders to exercise restraint and refrain from making public comments on internal party matters, especially in response to the Chief Minister’s remarks.
Addressing the media in New Delhi on Monday, Mallu Ravi said, “Party leaders should not express their opinions on internal affairs in public.” Referring to Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy’s public objection to the Chief Minister’s comment, Ravi noted that the party high command would handle the matter appropriately.
“Rajgopal Reddy is not aware of the context in which Chief Minister Revanth Reddy made such claims,” he added.
While some party leaders have taken exception to the Chief Minister’s statement, others have rallied behind him. Last week, AICC general secretary A Sampath Kumar defended the remarks, saying, “He was only reflecting the aspirations of the people of Kollapur constituency.”
In a related development, the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka are scheduled to visit New Delhi on Thursday. They will present the proposal for 42 per cent reservations for BCs to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. Later in the evening, they are expected to brief around 100 Congress MPs on the same issue at Indira Bhavan.
