Hyderabad: Former Minister and BRS Legislative Party deputy floor leader T Harish Rao on Sunday tore into Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, describing the latter’s political journey as a chronicle of betrayal, deception and deliberate damage to Telangana. Strongly condemning Revanth Reddy’s remarks at Khammam calling for demolishing BRS flagposts in the State, Harish Rao said Revanth Reddy carried betrayal in his DNA, reminding his past association with anti-Telangana forces during the separate Statehood movement.
Recalling that Revanth Reddy sided with those who wanted to keep Telangana merged with the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh and had even pointed a gun at activists fighting for Statehood, Harish Rao’s no holds barred counter saw him terming the Chief Minister as the cash-for-votes culprit, pointing out that Revanth Reddy was caught red-handed while carrying bags of money to buy MLAs for TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu.
“Revanth Reddy is a traitor to democracy. He duped the TDP and joined the Congress, against which late NT Rama Rao had fought throughout his life. This is nothing short of political treachery,” he said.
Harish Rao also accused Revanth Reddy of betraying the Congress as well. While enjoying the Chief Minister’s post in the Congress government, Revanth Reddy was involved in backdoor dealings with the BJP and TDP, he said, reiterating that Revanth Reddy’s political journey was being guided by his mentor Chandrababu Naidu.
“By day, he chants Rahul Gandhi’s name. By night, he shelves the Congress’s ideology and colludes with BJP and TDP, which is the epitome of Revanth Reddy’s treachery,” he said, questioning the reason behind showering praises on TDP in a public meeting. He stated that Revanth Reddy’s policies were favouring neighbouring States at Telangana’s cost, particularly on the controversial Banakacherla project issue.
The BRS leader escalated his criticism sharply, condemning the Chief Minister’s alleged call to demolish BRS flagposts. “A Chief Minister inciting vandalism is a direct assault on law and order. Is this governance or goondaism?” he asked, questioning the silence of the Telangana DGP and demanding accountability from the police. He sought to know whether Telangana was being run as per the Constitution of India or by Revanth Reddy’s personal constitution.
Harish Rao said the Chief Minister calling for physical attacks and destruction of property was a testament to Revanth Reddy’s degradation and his inability to confront the BRS politically. He warned that if the government attempted to provoke unrest, the people of Telangana would respond on the streets with equal force and teach Revanth Reddy an unforgettable lesson.
