Nirmal: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy did not utter a single word about Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUK)-Basar, while touring Nirmal and Adilabad districts on Monday.
Evidently, he spent more than two hours performing Aksharabhyasam for his grandson and laying the foundation for redevelopment works of the Sri Gnana Saraswathi Devasthanam-Basar, but could not spare a few minutes for the varsity, which disappointed the students.
In the capacity of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President, Revanth Reddy supported the agitating students by entering from a rear gate by travelling on a tractor for some distance and then walking barefoot in June of 2022. His appearance helped the university to draw the attention of officials and address challenges.
Students of the institution pinned many hopes on Revanth Reddy when his tour schedule of Nirmal and Adilabad districts was announced. They expected that as the Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy would lay a focus on the university and take steps to resolve major challenges crippling the varsity. They hoped that he would visit the campus during his grandson’s Aksharabhyasam at the Sri Gnana Saraswathi Devasthanam-Basar.
“Revanth Reddy’s presence would be a matter of great honour for the student community. It would significantly boost morale and bring meaningful attention to the needs and development of the institution. He would directly observe the ground realities and understand concerns of students relating to academics, infrastructure and welfare,” Kadari Aakash Yadav, Telangana Students Association for Solidarity state president, said in a statement a day before the Chief Minister’s tour to the two districts.
Revanth Reddy, however, did not mention about the university grappling with a slew of challenges while addressing a public meeting at Pippiri village of Adilabad district. Contrary to expectations of the students, he remained silent on the issues of the RGUKT. His stance upset the students, who were protesting against the State government over poor quality food, staff crunch and recruitment of a regular vice-chancellor.
Recently, the students staged a protest against inadequate medical facilities to the students on the campus. Mallipudi Tejashwini, a 17-year-old from Ramachandrapuram in Medak district and a Pre-University Course second year student of the university, highlighted the issue.
