Nirmal; Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUKT)-Basar in-charge Administrative Officer Dr Devaraju said Jyotiba Phule strived hard to eradicate inequalities in society using education as a tool.
He was speaking at a function to pay tributes to Phule on his 194th birthday celebrations on Sunday. Devaraju hailed Phule for helping the latter’s wife to become the maiden female teacher of the country. He opined that Phule had identified inequalities in the society and invented remedies for the menace by encouraging women in studies. He termed Phule as one of the finest reformers of India and had transformed the lives of women belonging to weaker sections using education as a tool.
Student Welfare Officer Satheesh observed that Phule had always lived an ideal life and advised everyone to emulate his life. SC and ST Cell convener Dr B Vijay Kumar said that the social reformer played a vital role for abolishing caste system and envisaged that education was the panacea for all evils of the society.
Senior professor Dr Gopala Krishna, members of SC,ST Cell and faculty members of the university were present.
