Rice husk found in over 10,000 bags during raid at Medak rice mill

Vigilance and Civil Supplies officials found more than 10,000 bags filled with rice husk during a raid on a rice mill in Medak district. The mill management allegedly owed over 3,800 quintals of rice worth around Rs 1 crore.

Medak: In a shocking incident, the vigilance and civil supplies department officials, who raided on Sai Balaji Rice Mill located at Malkapur in Toopran mandal, have found rice husk in the bags instead of rice.

The incident left the officials in a shock. The civil supplies department has been sending paddy bags to the rice mill for custom milling of rice (CMR) every year. However, the owner of the rice mill was not returning the rice to the civil supplies department in violation of guidelines. He was due a huge amount of rice to the department.

When the management failed to respond to the requests, the officials raided the mill on Wednesday and found over 10,000 bags filled with rice husks. When they questioned the owner, they got a shocking reply. He said that the rats ate the rice. However, the officials had found that the rice husks were intentionally filled in the bags, to mislead the officials.

District Civil Supplies officer, S Jagadish said that the rice mill management was due more than 3,800 quintals of rice, worth Rs one crore to civil supplies department. The officials have seized the mill and registered a case against the owner.
