Ranchi: The body of a 21-year-old medical student was found hanging from his hostel room in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district, police said on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Akshit Kumar, was a native of Simdega district, and he was pursuing an MBBS degree at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here.
“As information was received, we reached the spot. The door of his hostel room was locked from the inside. We broke the door and entered. His body was found hanging from the ceiling fan there,” Bariyatu Police Station officer-in-charge Manoj Kumar said. Prima facie, it appeared that the medical student died allegedly by suicide, he said, adding that the exact cause of death will be ascertained after post-mortem examination.
“No suicide note was recovered from the hostel room. The police have launched a detailed investigation,” the officer said. A spokesperson of the hospital said Kumar was a second-year MBBS student who had taken admission in 2024.
