Founded in 1829, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is a private research university in the town of Henrietta in the Rochester, New York metropolitan area. The university is the tenth largest private university in the country in terms of full-time students. In addition to Rochester, NY, RIT has four global campus locations in China, Croatia, Dubai, and Kosovo.

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) offers more than 90 undergraduate programmes, 77 master’s degrees, and 11 PhD programmes in Art, Crafts, Design, and Graphic Communications; Business, Management, and Communication; Computing and Information Sciences; Engineering and Engineering Technology; Health Sciences; Multidisciplinary; Science, Mathematics, and Imaging Science; Social Sciences, Humanities, and Education; and Sustainability.

Known globally, the National Technical Institute for the Deaf is a leading education institution for those with hearing-impairment that provides educational opportunities to more than 1,000 hard-of-hearing students. It is also known for its co-op programme that gives students professional and industrial experience and has the fourth oldest and one of the largest co-op programmes in the world.

The university is classified among “R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity.”
RIT’s student population is approximately 19,000 students (16,000 undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students); students attend from all 50 States in the United States and more than 100 countries around the world. The university has more than 4,000 active faculty and staff members who engage with the students in a wide range of academic activities and research projects. International students choose RIT to access top-ranked programmes at one of the world’s largest private universities on an internationally diverse campus; 2,700 international students at RIT come from over 110 countries.

According to US News & World Report, RIT is ranked 112th in the “National Universities” category (2021), tied for 11th among top schools co-op or internship programmes and 44th for undergraduate research opportunities under a new category, “Academic Programmes to Look For” (2021); ranked 33rd among “best value schools” (2021); tied for 76th among “Best Colleges for Veterans” (2021); ranked 83rd for student excellence based on the percentage of first-year students in top 10 per cent of their high school class and SAT/ACT scores; ranked 103 for social mobility, which measured how well schools graduate students receiving federal Pell grants (2021); ranked in top 50 among national universities in a national survey of “High School Counsellors Top College Picks” (2019); ranked 50th among “most innovative schools” (2021)

Fourteen RIT alumni and faculty members have been recipients of the Pulitzer Prize; 10 Photojournalism alumni have won a combined 14 Pulitzers. RIT is 3rd largest in STEM, among all US private universities, RIT produces top grads in science, technology, engineering, math. It is also the 50th on the list of “most innovative schools” according to U.S. News & World Report and 33rd on the list of “best value schools,” according to U.S. News & World Report.

Rochester Institute of Technology is also known for its remarkable alumni network with over 1,18,000 RIT alumni globally, which includes former New York Lieutenant Governor – Bob Duffy; former president and CEO of the Associated Press – Tom Curley; critical theorist – N Katherine Hayles; and photojournalist Bernie Boston, along with several other distinguished members.
