Riyan Parag undergoes shoulder surgery; likely to miss initial part of 2026-27 domestic season
Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag has successfully undergone right shoulder surgery in Mumbai under Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwalla. The 24-year-old all-rounder will begin his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, missing the initial phase of the domestic season
Mumbai: Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag successfully underwent surgery on his right shoulder at a city hospital here on Thursday.
Parag, who recently led the Royals to the IPL 2026 playoffs, underwent the procedure at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital under the supervision of renowned sports orthopedist Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwalla.
The 24-year-old all-rounder will soon begin his rehabilitation program at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. He is now expected to miss a significant portion of the upcoming 2026-27 domestic season, which kicks off in the third week of August with the Duleep Trophy.
“There is no specific timeframe for his return to competitive cricket as of now, as the focus remains entirely on his complete recovery,” a BCCI source told PTI.
The Assam cricketer had originally been named vice-captain of the India A squad for the ongoing Tri-Nation Series in Dambulla, Sri Lanka. While a hamstring injury initially ruled him out of the tour, the cricketer decided to utilize the downtime to permanently address a long-standing shoulder issue.
Confirming the development, Parag took to Instagram to share an update with his followers: “The shoulder finally won. For everyone who’s been asking, the surgery is done and went well. The past two years have tested me in ways I never expected. There were good days, frustrating days, and days when simply getting through a game was a challenge.”
“But I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Now comes a different challenge — recovery, rehab, and patience. I’ll be back doing what I love soon. See you on the other side,” Parag added.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was drafted into the India A squad as Parag’s replacement for the triangular tournament and has already been in stellar form, registering a century and a half-century against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A, respectively.
