Jagtial: Jagtial police have detained a robbery gang and arrested eight of its members. The police seized 1.5 tolas of gold, two cars, two bikes and eight mobile phones from the accused.

Presenting the accused before the media on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar explained the modus operandi of the gang.

Those arrested were identified as Tarala Srikanth, Kedala Mallesh, Palakurthi Raju, Badusu Murali, Ullengula Satish, Yeleti Mohan Reddy, Annarapu Raghu and Bandi Madhu.

On July 22, Srikanth had contacted the complainant, Induri Shankaraiah, to learn his whereabouts. After locating him, Srikanth, along with Raju and Mallesh, restrained Shankaraiah at Beeraiah Temple in Hanumanwada and took him to Raju’s house at knifepoint. They assaulted him and robbed 1.25 tolas of gold ornaments and forced him to transfer Rs.1 lakh to Srikanth’s PhonePe account.

Later, Satish and Murali joined the trio. They took Shankaraiah to the Sarangapur forest in a car and continued to assault him, demanding more money. The accused also threatened to kill him if he failed to arrange the amount. Eventually, the remaining members of the gang joined in.

Shankaraiah, along with his brother-in-law, lodged a complaint with the Jagtial police the same day.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case and arrested the gang members near Chanakya School on the Bypass Road in Vidyanagar, Jagtial town, while they were discussing how to divide the stolen property.
