Hyderabad:  The Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has decided to reopen the suicide case of Rohith Vemula, a PhD scholar at UoH, Rohith’s mother Radhika Vemula said.

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, she said the Chief Minister assured them that a genuine and fair probe would be conducted into the case. The police only considered reports which were in favour of BJP leaders, that were taken during 2016-17 for case closure report but not reports from 2018-21 including the Collector’s enquiry report, she said while demanding to know how police arrived at the fact that Rohith was not SC when she was a Dalit.

Finding fault with police report that stated Rohith died by suicide as he could not pursue academics, Radhika said her son was second school topper in Class X exams, secured all India sixth rank in MSc entrance test in general category and also qualified for the JRF in Social Sciences and Life Sciences.

“As per the report, Rohith’s certificates were fake. If his certificates were fake, how did the UoH enroll him? They thought it’s like Modi’s fake degree certificate. All were original certificates, which Rohith earned,” she said and vowed to continue the fight till the justice is served and those people responsible for suicide her son are punished.

Meanwhile, the students demanded the government to withdraw the case closure report, reopen the case and take action on investigators who produced a highly “tarnishing” report. They also demanded withdrawal of cases filed against protesting students and faculty.
