Mancherial: Four persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in illegal cockfights at a secluded place on the outskirts Uday Nagar in Srirampur town on Tuesday evening. Cash in Rs 11,200, four roosters, three motorbikes and two mobile phones were recovered from them. Five more people are absconding.
Srirampur Sub-Inspector Mangilal said that the arrested were identified as Ragam Tirupathi, a lorry driver, Madugula Ramu, daily earner, Kampelli Mallaiah, former SCCL employee and Bangari Sai Teja, a daily-wager, all belonging to different parts of Srirampur. Madugula Sandeep, Vijay, Shekhar, Hari and Pothurajula Ramesh were still at large.
In the course of interrogations, the four confessed to committing the crime to make a quick buck.
Police said that many were ruining their lives by being addicted to cockfighting. He warned that stringent action would be taken against those who are involved in the offence.
