Khammam: The State government has given Rs 1,800 crore for the development of Khammam city and to fulfill the needs of the residents, Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar said on Monday.

He said Khammam Municipal Corporation which witnessed rapid growth in the past few years was going to witness unprecedented development in the days to come as the government was allotting huge amounts of funds.

Ajay Kumar launched and laid the foundation for various development works here on Monday. The government recently sanctioned Rs 30 crore Special Development Fund (SDF) following an assurance given by IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao, he said.

The Minister directed the officials and contracting agencies to complete the works as per schedule and in doing so quality has to be maintained. He wanted the engineering officials to regularly monitor the works.

With the SDF funds, BT road works have been taken up in different municipal divisions in the city. Steps were being taken to lay black topped (BT) internal roads wherever it was required to improve the connectivity.

He said the city roads which were narrow and caused lot of trouble to the vehicle riders were now widened with road dividers and central street lighting. Similarly parks and open gyms have come up in many divisions.

The previous government never cared about improving infrastructure facilities in the city but the TRS government was giving priority to Khammam’s development, Ajay Kumar asserted.

Every household in the city was now getting Mission Bhagiratha water, the minister said while urging Khammam residents to stand by the TRS party and extend their support to party candidates in the upcoming elections to the Municipal Corporation.

ZP Chairman L Kamalraj, MLC B Lakshminarayana, SUDA Chairman B Vijay Kumar and others were present.
