Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said a whopping Rs 52,000 crore worth infrastructure development works, including roads, flyovers, bridges, underpasses and drinking water lines were progressing rapidly in Hyderabad.
Speaking at the launch of the TGSRTC–Metro Rail Common Pass here on Friday, the Deputy Chief Minister stated that infrastructure works worth Rs.35,000 crore had been taken up within the HMDA limits, including roads, flyovers and bridges.
He said the Metro Rail network in Hyderabad would be expanded by 122 kilometres to improve public transportation. The government proposes to take up Phase-II of the Metro project at an estimated cost of around Rs.38,000 crore, providing connectivity to the Old City, the RGI airport, Patancheru and Hayathnagar areas.
The Regional Ring Road (RRR) project was being taken up with the objective of extending Hyderabad’s development beyond the city limits to other parts of the State. The 362-kilometre project, connecting all districts, is estimated to cost Rs 30,627 crore, he said.
The government was also developing 21 radial roads connecting the ORR and RRR. Alignment approvals have already been given for 10 roads and work has commenced on two of them, he said.
Stressing that the State government had initiated measures for the revival of River Musi, he said phase-I works had already commenced. With a focus on the environment, the Deputy Chief Minister said electric buses were being introduced in Hyderabad replacing diesel buses to reduce air pollution. A total of 550 electric buses have already been introduced, while another 2,200 buses would be brought into service in the future, he said.
“Rs 200 crore had been sanctioned for retrofitting to enable auto-rickshaw drivers to convert their diesel autos into electric vehicles,” Bhatti Vikramarka said.
