Hyderabad: Despite bagging several awards for excellence in policing, the city police still have little clue about the identity of the two suspects who robbed Rs 6 lakh from a businessman after firing at him in Koti on Saturday.
Kerala-based businessman Abdul Rinshad came to an ATM centre on Bank Street Road in Koti around 7 am on Saturday to deposit cash. The two robbers approached him, threatened him, and fired two rounds from a country-made weapon. A bullet hit Rinshad’s leg, leading to profuse bleeding.
The duo then snatched Rinshad’s scooter keys and escaped on the vehicle towards Kachiguda, where they changed their clothes and walked towards the railway station.
Special teams constituted by the Hyderabad police to nab the robbers have so far not achieved any major breakthrough. The teams picked up a few suspects and are questioning them.
The special teams checked Errakunta, Pahadishareef, Shaheennagar and Sadatnagar localities based on information that the gang had hired an auto-rickshaw and moved towards colonies and slums in these areas. However, the searches did not yield any results.
“They kept moving around the city before disappearing. Teams are checking the closed-circuit camera network across the city in the hope of getting actionable clues,” said a Hyderabad police official.
Senior police officers suspect that the gang had planned the heist in advance and waited for an opportunity to strike.
Meanwhile, police recorded the statement of Rinshad, who is admitted to a hospital. Surgery was performed on Saturday and the bullet was removed from his leg.
