Hyderabad: The Road Transport Authority of Hyderabad conducted a special drive against private travel buses at various zones of the city, and Nagole, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri district transport offices, between January 7 and 12.
Joint Transport Commissioner and Secretary, J. Pandurang Naik, said that 51 private buses were issued Vehicle Check Reports (VCRs) from January 7 to 12, within the city. A total of 14 vehicles were issued VCR in the east zone, nine in the north zone, 11 in the west zone, and five and four in the south and central zones respectively. Eight buses were booked in the Nagole zone.
While no buses were seized in Hyderabad, the authorities took hold of five buses in Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts, and booked cases against 25 buses.
The authorities also levied fines on the vehicles that were found violating the RTA rules. In Hyderabad and Nagole, penalty worth Rs 81,000 was imposed on the owners of such buses, whereas the authorities in Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts levied a total of Rs 33,000 fine.
