Hyderabad: Thousands of people from neighbouring States and various districts in Telangana have made Hyderabad their home for work or business. However, many continue to use driving licences that carry their old hometown addresses, often obtained years ago.

Regional Transport Authority (RTA) officials warn that neglecting to update these details can lead to complications, particularly during licence renewal or official verification.

Authorities emphasise that a driving licence with the current residential address serves as a vital identity document and simplifies access to multiple transport-related services.

To minimise paperwork and visits to government offices, the Road Transport Authority has streamlined the address change process through online services.

This facility is available on the central government’s Parivahan portal, offering a convenient solution for residents who have relocated to Telangana from other states.

Applicants are required to submit valid address proof such as Aadhaar, voter ID, electricity bill, or gas bill, along with the original driving licence. Individuals above 40 years of age must also furnish a medical fitness certificate (Form 1-A).

After completing the online application and document verification at the RTO, the updated smart card driving licence with the new address is sent directly to the applicant’s residence by post.

Transport officials have advised residents living outside their native states to ensure their driving licence reflects their current address to avoid unnecessary inconvenience.

Once the online application is filed and document verification is completed at the RTO, the updated smart card is dispatched directly to the applicant’s current residence via post. Transport officials strongly advise all residents living away from their native regions to ensure their licences reflect their current address to avoid any unnecessary legal or administrative inconvenience.
