Hyderabad: The Saidabad police have so far registered five cases in connection with the sexual assault on inmates at the state-run Juvenile Welfare and Correctional Centre in Saidabad.
The incident came to light early this month after one of the inmates complained about being sexually abused at the centre by a supervisor. The police, following a complaint, had registered a case. Inquiries by the police have revealed that a few more children were sexually abused at the centre.
“Five cases have been registered so far in regard to the incidents at the centre. Investigation is still going on,” said DCP (south east) S Chaitanya Kumar.
All of the victims are rescued children who are either neglected by their parents or found living on city footpaths away from their homes.
The Department of Correctional Services suspended the supervisor who was allegedly waking up the children in the night and sexually assaulting them in the centre.
