Sangareddy: The constitution of the Indiramma committees, which will select the beneficiaries of the Indiramma housing scheme, in villages and municipal wards is drawing huge criticism from Opposition parties as the ruling party was making monopoly decisions in forming these committees.

According to the guidelines, the special officer and panchayat secretary will lead the seven-member committee. Since the making of two SHG women as members of the committee was mandatory, the rest three members are to be people concerned about village development. The Congress leaders in the village were making all these five members from their party. Interestingly, the internal bickering within the Congress was also coming to the fore as only a faction, with the help of their MLA, was playing a key role in forming the committees. Meanwhile, the MPDOs, who were responsible for forwarding the committees to the district collector’s office, were facing all the heat.

The factions within the Congress are knocking at MPDO office doors demanding changes in the committee members. Meanwhile, the BRS, BJP and Left parties are demanding the officials to conduct a grama sabha to constitute the committee transparently. However, the officials were in no mood to pay heed to their requests because they were allegedly following recommendations of Congress leaders. Recently, the BJP leaders in Kowdipally mandal presented a representation to MPDO demanding a transparent constitution of committees. In Kohir mandal, BRS leaders led by mandal president Narasimhulu presented a representation to MPDO demanding to conduct grama sabhas to constitute the committees transparently.
