Sangareddy: Sangareddy police have nabbed a highway robbery gang that was involved in stealing goats and sheep brought to Hyderabad meat markets from Maharashtra. The police team under the leadership of Patancheru Inspector N Venugopal Reddy seized a country-made pistol, seven live rounds of bullets, 60 sheep, one Bolero vehicle, Rs 1.51 cash, three knives and apprehended four persons.

Under Patancheru Police Station limits, a six-member gang from Chandrayanagutta area in Hyderabad had stolen two truckloads of sheep/goats from traders from Maharashtra on the Hyderabad-Mumbai highway in Sangareddy district. On December 8, the six-member gang came in an Innova vehicle and stopped a truck carrying sheep at Isnapur on NH-65. At knifepoint, the accused took away the truck of sheep trader Mahadev Beeru Godike (48) and his driver Govind Balbheem Gadekar, natives of Osmanabad district in Maharastra. After beating them black and blue, the accused dropped them at Medchel and fled with the truck. Following a complaint, the Patancheru Police registered a case on the same day.

On the same lines, the same accused had stolen another truckload of sheep from another trader Shaik Tasleem Deshmukh and his driver Kishan Bajarang, natives of Buldana district in Maharashtra, on January 13. After dropping the victims at Shameerpet, the accused told them to pick up their vehicle at Chenigacherla meat market. Following this, SP Sangareddy M Raman Kumar has constituted a team headed by Inspector Patancheru N Venugopal Reddy, S Sreenivasulu, Inspectors at Patancheru Police Station, and CCS Inspector Bhupathi. As part of their investigation, they visited Jiyaguda Sheep Market on January 17 following a tip-off. They apprehended one Mohammed Haneef, a sheep trader, who was possessing 27 stolen sheep. Haneef said that he had bought 77 sheep and 5 goats from them.

During interrogation, the accused confessed that he purchased the sheep from the six-member gang comprising Khaja Whabuddin (45), Mohamad Tajuddin (27), Mohammad Issaq (26), Shaik Imran (33), Taimoor (26), Amer (25). Shaik Imran. Taimoor and Amer are absconding while the police managed to take the remaining four into custody. Taimoor and Amer, natives of Uttar Pradesh, were working with Wahabuddin, a notorious criminal in the Chandrayanagutta area. Wahabuddin was reportedly involved in 51 cases under various police stations limits. SP Raman Kumar, who produced the accused before media on Tuesday at his office, said the department will reward the police personnel who played a key role in cracking the case. The accused have been remanded.
