Sangareddy: A 19-year-old has been arrested for cheating an engineering graduate of Rs.10.33 lakh by posing as a woman on a social media app in Sangareddy.
Police said the accused, Seelam Sanjay Kumar, lured the victim on the app Duck Chat Club between January and April this year, using a fake profile picture. He persuaded the victim to transfer Rs.10.33 lakh into his bank accounts.
Realising he had been cheated, the victim filed a complaint at Hathnoora police station. The Central Crime Station and Cyber Crime police traced Sanjay Kumar to Markapur in Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh. He was arrested, and Rs.3.63 lakh along with a mobile phone were recovered. He has been sent to remand by a Sangareddy court.
Another accused, Gadda Prakash, who allegedly assisted the main accused, remains absconding.
Sangareddy SP Paritosh Pankaj urged citizens to report any suspicious online activity. He also appreciated Cyber Crime DSP N. Venugopal Reddy, CCS Inspector V. Shiva Kumar, and other personnel for cracking the case quickly.
