Hyderabad: Sania Mirza clinched her 43rd WTA title when she and Shuai Zhang of China won the women’s doubles title in the WTA 500 Ostrava (Czech Republic) on Sunday. Sania and Zhang shocked third seeds Kaitlyn Christian USA) and Erin Routliffe (New Zealand) 6-3, 6-2 in the final.
This is Sania’s first title at the 500 level (second overall) post maternity break. Earlier in the semifinals, Sania and Zhang beat Makoto Nononmiya and Eri Hozumi.
The 34-year-old Hyderabadi was runners-up at the WTA 250 Cleveland event in the USA last month with Christina Michale.
