Hyderabad: The Sankranti vacation schedule for educational institutions, particularly schools, is likely to be changed.
According to the vacation announced by the Telangana School Education department, schools will have a five day holiday from January 11 to 15. Additionally, as January 10 falls on the second Saturday schools will get an extra holiday.
The State government recently notified holidays for 2026, declaring January 15 as a holiday for Sankranti festival and January 16 as an optional holiday for Kanuma festival. Going by this order, schools are to reopen the day after the festival holidays.
However, according to teacher unions, most parents will not send their children immediately after the Sankranti festival.
The teacher unions urged the government to extend holidays until January 18 and that schools be reopened on January 19.
