Hyderabad: Freedom fighter and poet Sarojini Naidu’s poem on Hussain Sagar is likely to be inscribed on a stone plaque and installed at Tank Bund to immortalise the life and times of the ‘Nightingale of India’.
Responding to a suggestion from heritage enthusiast and architect Asif Ali Khan on Twitter, Urban Development Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar said he would look into the suggestion.
“I request… to inscribe this poem on Hussainsagar by Sarojini Naidu on a plaque and install it at a suitable place on Tank Bund. It’s an extract from her book “The Bird Of Time”- year 1912,” Asif Ali Khan tweeted.
In the poem titled ‘The Hussain Saagar’, Naidu describes the lake as a ‘living image of her soul’. It is an extract from her book ‘The Bird Of Time’ published in 1912, which contained a tribute to Hussain Sagar.
Apart from the poem on Hussain Sagar, she penned other poems too on the city’s life and culture, events and landmarks including the Puranapul.
