Sangareddy: A sarpanch candidate who allegedly committed suicide fearing defeat has emerged victorious posthumously. Chalki Raju (36), who contested for the sarpanch post of Peepadpally in Raikode mandal, reportedly took the extreme step on the night of December 7, stating that he felt cheated by Congress leaders and supporters.
Raju was found hanging from a tree at a farmhouse near his villagethe following day by his followers. Despite his death, he went on to win the election with a slender margin of eight votes during the second phase of gram panchayat elections conducted in the village on Sunday.
The posthumous victory will now compel the election authorities to conduct a re-election for the sarpanch post in the village.
