Nagarkurnool: Even as summer is yet to fully set in, residents in several places across the State are already staging protests over inadequate drinking water supply.

In Ettam village of the district, Sarpanch B Lakshmi and Vice-Sarpanch B Dharmaraju on Tuesday led a protest demanding supply of drinking water through the Mission Bhagiratha scheme. Holding empty pots, the couple along with other villagers squatted on the road and raised slogans against officials, demanding immediate restoration of adequate water supply.

The villagers complained that there had been insufficient supply of drinking water for the past two months. Despite repeated appeals, Mission Bhagiratha officials had failed to address the issue, they alleged. Vexed with the continuing negligence, the Sarpanch and her husband staged the protest along with villagers.

Lakshmi said that even before the onset of summer, the Mission Bhagiratha scheme in the village was facing several problems and demanded that the issues be resolved immediately.

She also urged the authorities to extend the Mission Bhagiratha pipeline to new colonies that have come up in the village.
