Hyderabad: The Telangana Sarpanches Sangham Join Action Committee (JAC) on Sunday said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was lying that Rs.750 crore was released towards clearing the pending bills for works executed by sarpanches.
When the Sarpanches JAC members wanted to submit a symbolic representation to BR Ambedkar statue at Secretariat here on Sunday, they were prevented by the police. The committee members were taken into custody and shifted to Bandlaguda police station.
Condemning the State government’s oppression, the Sarpanches JAC State president Survi Yadaiah Goud said it was not wise for the Chief Minister to make such misleading statements. The Chief Minister had announced that Rs.750 crore was released towards pending bills. But the fact was that these funds were released for paying salaries of multipurpose workers that were due since the last few months, payment of streetlight bills, borewell motor power bills etc, he said in a statement.
This apart, bills pertaining to CC roads works taken up under NREGS and released by the Centre were approved to the gram panchayats. But the pending bills pertaining to Special Development Funds, State Finance Corporation and others were not released, Yadaiah Goud said.
The cheques payable to sarpanches were rotting in the treasury and general funds were also freezed. Not a single rupee towards clearing pending bills before 2024 was released by the State government, he said.
The government was clearing bills of contractors worth thousands of crores but was not releasing Rs.1200 crore for clearing pending bills payable to sarpanches, he said, adding that despite 11 months passing by since the Congress government came to power, sarpanches were being deprived of their rightful funds.
