Hyderabad: Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) chairman A Venkateshwar Reddy felicitated Telangana boxer Nikhat Zareen, who returned to the city on Friday.

The Nizamabad boxer had recently won trials to make it to the Indian boxing team for the upcoming World Championships and Asian Games scheduled to be held later this year.

The State boxer also had an outstanding outing at the recently-concluded Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria where she won her second gold medal. She had won her first gold at the event in 2019 and became the only Indian to win two gold medals at the prestigious event.

SATS chief received her at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad earlier in the day. Venkateshwar Reddy said the government will support the boxer in every way to encourage her and hoped that she would win more laurels for the country and the State.

Nikhat said that she was delighted to see boxing coaches and other officials receiving her at the airport. “I am delighted that so many officials have come to receive me. I want to work hard and win more medals for the State and the country,” she said.

Meanwhile, former national coach E Chiranjeevi said, “She has been performing well in the recent past. Hopefully she will go on to win many more laurels for the country.”
