Mahabubabad: Minister for Tribal Welfare Satyavathi Rathod on Friday said harassment of tribal farmers cultivating in podu lands by officials will not be tolerated.

“Even though the officials have been asked not to touch farmers of podu lands, there have been instances where such farmers have been harassed in some places. We will not tolerate such action,” she asserted.

Launching the party’s membership drive here, the Minister said she was happy with the party entering the 20th year of its existence.

Satyavathi Rathod said they were targeting enrolment of at least 50,000 members in each constituency. “The workers must work hard as the party needs their services in the next three months,” she said, adding that the TRS had emerged as an unstoppable political force (Tiruguleni Rajakeeya Sakthi- TRS) under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

Stating that the TRS was the only party which was providing life insurance cover to party members, she said the party was paying a premium of Rs 16 to Rs 18 crore annually. “The Congress and BJP,  both national parties, do not bother about the welfare of their workers,” she said.

Speaking on podu land issues, she said: “Authorities have been instructed not to go to podu farmers’ lands. However, they have been digging trenches in some places. Status quo should continue. Officials should not interfere on this issue since the Chief Minister has given an assurance in this regard,” she said.

Mahabubabad MLA Banoth Shankar Naik, AGROs chairman Lingampally Kishan Rao, ZP chairperson Angothu Bindhu, party leader Birvelli Bharat Kumar Reddy and other leaders attended the event.
